A Theorist’s Toolkit: Property testing

چکیده

Loosely speaking, the goal of property testing is to determine whether a certain object has a certain property. Let us represent our objects as functions f . Then a property P can be represented as the set of functions F having the property in question. For example, we might encode a graph G as the indicator function f for the edges in G. The property of, say, bipartiteness of a graph is then represented naturally as the set of all f encoding bipartite graphs. The first naive goal can be expressed as follows.

A Theorist’s Toolkit

(a) Consider the problem of computing the median of σ exactly in the single pass streaming model. Either prove that any deterministic streaming algorithm that solves this problem must use Ω(m log(n/m)) bits in the worst case, or give a deterministic streaming algorithm that solves Median exactly using a sub-linear number of bits. If you give an algorithm, you should also prove its correctness a...

A Theorist’s Toolkit

(a) Show that, similarly to Max Cut, the Max 2SAT problem can be expressed as an integer quadratic program in which the only constraints are yi ∈ {1,−1} and the objective function is a quadratic in the yi. (Hint: It may help to introduce a variable y0 to designate which of 1 or −1 indicates “true”.) (b) Derive a factor αGW ≈ 0.87856 approximation algorithm for Max 2SAT. (c) Consider the restric...

Security Functional Testing Using An Interface-Driven Model-Based Test Automation Approach

Independent security functional testing on a product occupies a backseat in traditional security evaluation because of the cost and stringent coverage requirements. In this paper we present the details of an approach we have developed to automate security functional testing. The underlying framework is called TAF (Test Automation Framework) and the toolkit we have developed based on TAF is the ...

Statistical language modeling using the CMU-cambridge toolkit

The CMU Statistical Language Modeling toolkit was released in 1994 in order to facilitate the construction and testing of bigram and trigram language models. It is currently in use in over 40 academic, government and industrial laboratories in over 12 countries. This paper presents a new version of the toolkit. We outline the conventional language modeling technology, as implemented in the tool...
